National Board Elections
Speeches

President
Andi Dimacale: Hello fellow sisters! I am very thankful to be a candidate for National Board President.  I strongly believe that I have the necessary qualities to oversee the National Board as well as our thriving Chapters.   Throughout the years I have built relationships with all current Chapters and its’ sisters.  I crossed into the Alpha Chapter, where I learned the basis, customs, and traditions of our sorority while working closely with some of our oldest sisters.  I was part of the expansion of the Beta Chapter and held Presidency while creating a solid foundation for future sisters.  And just recently I played an active role as a big sis in the new member process of Gamma Chapter.  The roles I have played over the years have allowed me to network and create connections with sisters at each Chapter, which I feel will ease my transition into Presidency, if given the opportunity.  I am very responsible, driven, and most of all organized.  I have excellent leadership skills that I feel will come in handy in regards to making sure all things are done in a timely manner, whether it be delegating tasks to the appropriate Board members, or even reaching to take the matter into my own hands. Lastly I feel that I can represent the sorority in a positive and professional way that will enable us to grow into a stronger organization and build stronger bonds of sisterhood.

Belle Calma: First of all, I am very honored to be nominated for this position. As President, I would do my best to be the voice and face of Delta Chi Lambda. I would uphold the position with utmost integrity and do my best to look out for the best interests of the sorority. I feel that I may lack the desired prerequisites to be President, however, I had a hand in establishing National Board as Alpha chapter Co-expansion Chair in Spring 2009 so I do feel that I know the expectations of the position well and would have no problem putting my knowledge into practice. My term as Director of Technology this year has prepared me for the issues that arise on board and I have an understanding of how to deal with these matters. I have also served on E-Board in my respective chapter as New Member Mom and held various positions such as Philanthropy and Alumni Relations Chairs with utmost organization and grace. Though these positions differ greatly, I believe I have versatile experience to become a great overall leader of all aspects of the sorority. I understand the time and effort that it takes to be a member of the board and realize that this is an overwhelming position to take on. However, I truly believe that I have the leadership skills necessary to uphold the standards, and to possibly even take the sorority and all its chapters to a higher level of excellence. In order to do this, I believe that it begins with National Board. I promise to always have open lines of communication and to assure that the board takes care of business efficiently. Though I myself have proven to be busy in my professional and personal life, I would be happy to fully devote myself to this position and to give back to the sorority that has given me so much when I was active. Thank you so much for your consideration.

Vice President
Belle Calma: Of all positions nominated, I feel that I have the most drive to be Vice President. As VP, I would do my best to be the eyes and ears of the sorority. My main goal as VP would be to bridge the gap that exists between National Board and the chapters. I would do this by ensuring positive lines of communication at all times and I will strongly campaign and implement the rewards system for chapters who meet requirements on time. Most of all, I would remain as open-minded as possible while making sure that all matters are communicated to the board and that we are on the same page with any decision that is made. I am also aware of the Sisterhood Open Door Policy and will promise to abide by it. My top priority will be to strengthen the sisterhood between National Board and our chapters, within chapters, and between chapters. Furthermore, I promise to remain fully dedicated to this or any position I am nominated for if elected. I will work hard to obtain and maintain the stability of this board and each chapter.

Melissa Nguyen: Thank you for those who have nominated me. I would like to be considered as the VP for a second term, because I feel that I would be able to offer an immense amount of help to the Natl President in assisting with her duties on this board. Not only have I had the experience and opportunity of other positions through my Dchil active days and on National Board, but most importantly, I have had the opportunity to oversee and execute tasks as the first National President to DCHIL.

Since I have chosen to decline the National Presidency nomination, I felt that it would be a good opportunity for National Board to run under different leadership, this was my main reason for declining and other personal reasons. In order to help transition sisters and the new Board to being the new faces of National DCHIL, I strongly feel that nominating and voting me for the VP position will help BEST assist the new President through my guidance and experience from the birth of this Board, and through my experience as an active member of Dchil.

For a second term, I am confident that I can be a supportive VP to the President and other board members, to help them every step of the way as I have done in the past.  This has been a very smooth position for me the last term and it helps to know that my personal career and every day life is to support a team on a day to tday basis. These skill acquired help me to utilize them, to bring forth to the National Board with fresh new ideas and help with structure.

Once again, I am always thankful for the opportunity that Dchil has given me, to strengthen my character as a person and I would love to be able to continue helping the chapters of DCHIL as I have developed very close relationships with many of the active girls since my terms on Nationals.

Andi Dimacale

Secretary
Leighann Ngo: Hi everyone, I’m Leighann Ngo and I’d like to humbly decline all of the positions I have been nominated for except Secretary, Director of Compliance, and Director of Alumnae Relations.

First, I’d like to tell you a little about myself. I graduated last year in 2011 from the University of Arizona as a Mechanical Engineer and I am currently working as a Sales Application Engineer at Super Radiator Coils. I’m originally from Tucson and moved up to Phoenix for my job.

While I was at the UofA I was an active member of the Alpha Chapter for about three and a half years. I was co-PC of my class and was active every semester except for my graduating semester when I was an associate. During my active semesters I held Alumnae Relations Chair, New Member Mom, New Member Educator, President, and this past semester I was Internal Advisor.

In general, I like to consider myself as being open-minded and hard working. I am also organized, detail-oriented, and good at time management. I can assure you that I am easy to work with, communicate with, and very committed to the sorority.

Secretary:
Attend all meetings and document all the important details
Send minutes to sisters accordingly and in a timely fashion
Work with chapter’s secretaries to receive and send minutes appropriately
Update sister information, constitution, and all other documents consistently

(continued)

Andi Dimacale: Holding the position of National Secretary this year has been a great learning experience.  I believe that I am very detail oriented and have taken excellent meeting minutes for the 2011-2012 National Board.  This past year I have really dedicated myself to creating the Chapter Operations Manual, and am still in the current process of updating our Constitution.  If reelected for National Secretary, I will make it point to add into our Constitution a clause stating that our National minutes not only be sent to the National Board, but to Chapter Presidents as well.  I will also continue to work hard and improve our Constitution and bring it up to date.

Director of Finance
Melissa Doan: The National director of finance is a position I find very rewarding. I know that there will be some stress that comes with the responsibilities of this position, but overall I find that the tasks are enjoyable. I would more than love to help the sorority by being in charge of ordering the standard sweatshirts, even file the necessary tax documents, but especially to aid in the disbursement of the scholarship to our members. To think that Delta Chi Lambda is now capable to do such a generous and cause worthy deed by helping fund one of our member’s tuition is rewarding. I feel like is a position that I would be honored to have. I realize that this chair requires precise documentation and organization, so I will adhere to properly do so. Also, I will have this next year off of school, so it is the only time I will be able to fully dedicate myself to the sorority. So, if I am allowed to, I would love to devote my time to Delta Chi Lambda.

Director of Compliance
Leighann Ngo: (continued)
Compliance:
Really familiarize myself with Constitution, National and Chapters
Familiarize myself with GAMMA and Panhellenic
Receive master calendars and paper work in timely fashion
Do follow-ups with chapters to ensure they are complying

Belle Calma: Of all positions on National Board, I feel that I am most prepared to be Director of Compliance. Technology was similar to it in which I approved all DCHIL matters advertised and posted virtually. I also have experience keeping my eyes open for any negative material regarding the sorority posted by members and nonmembers. As compliance, I would do my very best to make sure that all matters are conducted in accordance with our constitution and each campuses Greek Life rules and regulations. Most of all, I truly believe that I have the abilities to ensure that DCHIL is always represented in the most positive light.

Melissa Doan: I am running for 2 positions; however National Director of Compliance would be my 1st choice. One of the main reasons why I am running for a position on the national board is because I have realized how much I have missed being involved with the sorority within this last semester that I have been out of school. I am very proud of the progress the sorority has made over the years and am extremely passionate about the continuing growth of Delta Chi Lambda.

Secondly, I recently decided to take a turn in the path in which I am pursuing my future career and now I have decided to go into law. My current objective is to land a law internship in September, and I know the position of National Director of Compliance is in charge of all legal matters in regards to Delta Chi Lambda. So, having the experience from this position may greatly benefit both the sorority and I because it could help my future career. Not only that, but if I obtain the law internship, I may have access to legal support, if ever needed. Most of all, I understand the duties accompanied with this chair and know the importance of actually obtaining information first hand. What I mean by this is to accurately monitor if there is any hazing or if each chapter is suitably complying with panhellenic and university policies then one must be present to monitor such activities. If elected for this position, I am committing to attend at least one event for each chapter during the semester. I know that each and every position on national board is a fundamental part of keeping the sorority properly functioning. Therefore, I will not slack on any responsibilities or opportunities I am awarded. This position is a stepping stone for me, and I will use it to the best of my abilities to expand on the advantages of holding this position. This is something that I really want and promise to devote my time to. Thank you.

Melissa Nguyen: Thank you for those who have nominated me. I would like to be considered as the Compliance Director for a third term because I feel that by now, I have a pretty good understanding of the National Board structure and requirements. Not only does a sister need to have a good understanding and structure of board, but she needs to also be able to interpret these rules, and then to oversee the chapters with these requirements, alongside their own school requirements.

I feel that I have strong communication skills not only within the board, but among my relationship with the chapters, and am almost always accessible to the sisters who seek my help and would not have a problem overseeing or exercising authority when needed. This position is challenging because a lot is required in order to make sure that the chapters are compliant in aspects of events or even the new member program. It becomes the most challenging when I have developed personal relationships with some of these girls within the chapters, and then having to play a different role as a Compliance Director, at that point, authority is sometimes challenging but I have learned that this can definitely be done throughout my years as the Compliance Director. This position is not always pleasant because there will be times where chapters will be denied of a choice, and then there are times where there is a lot of back and forth communicating until a happy medium is met, dependent on the circumstance. In the end, I am always willing to make a happy medium for both chapters and board, without interfering with my duties as the Compliance Director. I feel that as each term ends, I am learning something new each time.

Once again, I am always thankful for the opportunity that Dchil has given me, to strengthen my character as a person and I would love to be able to continue helping the chapters of DCHIL as I have developed very close relationships with many of the active girls since my terms on Nationals.

Director of Expansion
Kehau Ampong: I want to be a part of National Board because I want to be involved in the direction our sisterhood goes in the future.  Specifically, I would like the position of Director of Expansion because I am excited by the prospect of beginning new chapters.  I am motivated by the successes of our newest chapter and the support provided from everyone.  Since I was Alpha Chapter's Expansion Chair and Gamma Charter Class's NME last fall semester, I worked closely and was in constant contact with the Director of Expansion.  I may not know the details of all the duties, but I feel that my experience as Expansion Chair and NME for a charter class will prepare me for this position.  I have an understanding of some of the questions and problems that may arise from our established chapters as well as from potential colonies.

Director of Scholastics
Teresa Lam: My name is Teresa Lam and I am running for Academic chair. I believe this position is one of the most important positions on the board because it ensures that the sorority maintains a standard of excellence in academics. As a student, education should be a priority to all current and future members. As a current professional graduate student, I realize the importance of academics, grades, and GPA. GPA not only emphasizes educational values, it can also open many doors to a bright and successful future. By ensuring that we are able to uphold our high standards and keep e integrity of of our traditions written in the constititution, we will be able to mold our members into well-rounded women. As a former Alpha chapter e-board member and academic chair I know the time and energy it takes to help run a large organization. Being on Delta Chi Lambda National Board would be a real privilege and honor. With my position I want to be able to contribute to Delta Chi Lambds ad an organization as much as it has given to me throughout my years in undergrad. Thank you!

Darline Chumpon: Many students enter college as great students. Being part of Alpha Chapter, was a great challenge between home, school, and work. Everyone knows, grades are very important. My personal experience have brought me challenges to succeed and fail especially education. I had both experiences to have great grades and low grades as well as being part of 'Academic Probation'. With these challenges, I was still able to graduate. I not only understand the importance of high and passing grades but striving to maintain sisterhood and graduating. Learning from mistakes and facing hardships, as Director of Academic, I can guide our sisters to surpass those obstacles.

Alumni Relations
Darline Chumpon: I have develop communications skills and responsibilities while attending undergraduate institution of the University of Arizona. As for many sisters, I have ran for positions for 4.5 years while active with the Alpha Chapter of Delta Chi Lambda. I have held an estimate of 5 positions or more and achieved the highest position of my own experience under Internal Vice President my senior year. As Alumnae Relations, I am a great candidate to help each chapter understand their priorities and communicate and foresee between chapters and National Board. I have access through phones and internet and have maintain my relationships with a variety of sisters including students and alumnae. This position is great for an alumnae who recently graduated from college and able to succeed in National Board, therefore, I would like to develop skills and knowledge to participate further in the future.

Leighann Ngo: (continued)
Alumnae Relations:
Communicate with alumna and keep them updated through national newsletters
Work with and manage chapter alumnae relations chairs and internal advisors
Communication with their specific chapter’s alumns and events

Just to wrap up, I hope I’m granted the opportunity to be a part of national board. I take all of my work seriously and am willing to put in the time and effort to help continuously improve the board and the sorority as a whole. Thank you for your consideration.

Kassandra Lau:
Thank you for this nomination.

I would like to continue being a part of the National Board. And I believe I’d be an effective Alumni Relations chair.

On top of my regular duties, here are a few goals I have for the next year.

1. Create sorority-wide directory of alumni.
2. Create a monthly newsletter available on our website with some of the latest information about our sisters and our chapters.
3. Work with chapters to ensure they are doing an efficient job keeping their alumni informed.

Ultimately I want to create a network for our sorority that ties sisters together long after graduation. It is my hope that it will help alumni feel connected regardless of where they are. I’d also like for Delta Chi Lambda to continue to recognize our sisters’ successes.

And I believe I’m the best person for this job. I know that I can accomplish these goals and a lot more.

Thank you for you consideration.
